Sometime it helps to take up a film that is so predictable that you can predict not only the story but also the box-office business as well. The method has been practiced to perfection; hate leading to love is a bull’s eye hit at point blank range that only a moron can miss. You absolutely do not need to let your imagination on a fly to understand what might happen next! Who can not figure out that antagonism is only skin-deep in What Happens in Vegas? This Cameron Diaz - Ashton Kutcher starrer supposedly romantic comedy takes you for a journey between hate and love with the background of a surprise shower of fortune. Though these two can not fall in the list of best romantic category, they give a seasoned performance and is quite a welcome break from the most unlike pairs of Hollywood that have flooded the screen of late. Michelle Pfeiffer in StardustWhen a trend has begun, there is no stopping the followers. Fads, though short lived, almost possess people into doing what is “in”. Right now, I suppose the trend points towards a magical bend of the directors and script writer’s wrist. You see, the public is bored of our own mundane, bad world and want to enter another realm which takes them deep into the world of fantasies and enthralls them, if only for an hour or two. Take the Harry Potter series, or Lord of the Rings for example sake. And now, we have another one jump onto the band wagon. This is Stardust. (more…)

Katherine Heigl in Knocked UpComedies really are nice to have around. I mean, you return home all stressed out from work and may be feeling down. A comedy will get your spirits up right away. Romantic comedies are even better - you can watch them with your chick friends or with your guy. That’s for the girls. What about the guys? Nah! So to solve the dilemma that the poor guys face, Judd Apatow has magnanimously come up with a movie guys don’t have to be ashamed of watching. (more…)

License to Wed: How did they get the license?

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Mandy Moore in License To WedWhen it comes to romantic comedies, weddings seem to ring the right bell. There have been so many of them centered on weddings. We have My Best Friend’s Wedding, Saving Silverman, The Wedding Planner…I could keep going on and on. Maybe there is something funny about marriage itself, otherwise why would so many people waste so much money-some making it and some watching it? With my mind buzzing with nonsensical questions like this, I went to watch License to Wed. And you know the conclusion that I came to? Because sometimes, we people are just suckers who are reeled in with the prospect of watching a rib tickling romantic comedy with a lot of “awww!” moments. I guess you are listening to one such sucker right now. (more…)
