Transformers: Totally Transformed

Megan Fox in TransformersI always wondered about the comic and cartoon characters I know from my childhood. What if they were to become human? Ok, fine, I’ll settle for something more realistic. What if they were given human forms by some great film maker? Would that not be super? Well, no. Till now, The Flintstones did not work for me; Fantastic Four are not that fantastic anymore and Superman, well, let’s not go there. The point is, by doing something like this, you ruin someone’s imagination and anyone who tries it better makes something good, or face the wrath of many fans.

Scene from Transformers
The transformers, a replication of the animated film from 1986 with the same name did just that and stepped into dangerous territory. The story is about an alien cube sort of thing called the Allspark that is lost somewhere on earth. The special thing about this device is that it breathes life into any machine that comes in contact with it. There are a bunch of Autobots (that’s right…robots with their own mind) who will go to any lengths to get their hands on this. To prevent this from happening, we have our own human team of Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, and Turturro. The battle starts in an airbase in Qatar and from then on, it’s the fight to the end in this treasure hunt.

You get to see robots do marvelous tricks in this film-they can turn into planes, into cars, and everything else possible. At times it seems they are the true stars of this flick. But even then, there is a faint odor of animated behavior that leaves you frowning a little bit.

About the cast, well, no one is worth mentioning. Maybe at the most we can thank Shia LaBeouf for being the only saving grace in this film, but that too just about; everyone else seems to be competing for worst actor awards. You get tired of the blood shed also because how many times does it amuse a person? Besides, the whole thing goes for a toss when it is machine against machine because you can’t even make out what is happening anymore.

This half baked script and storyline seems to smell foul when you are way into the movie and don’t really know what is happening. If you are a fan of the original, mostly you would leave disappointed as the animated version is a lot better than this. I really can’t think about what Michael Bay had on his mind when he signed on such shallow actors who could not have done any justice to well crafted characters, let alone fragile ones that this film seems to be full of. Even the special effects seem to be over the top and come across as crass instead of classy and cutting edge.

All in all, I would definitely not recommend this excuse for a film to anyone, least of all a Transformers fan.
