Die Hard 4 Movie Review: Very hard indeed
Just the other day I was thinking that there are really no great Hollywood flicks out this season. Maybe they are taking a sabbatical from making good movies or something of that sort. Anyway, there is one thing that I have not been able to get out of my mind. That is the release of the ultra cool and most eagerly awaited movie - Die Hard 4.0. Oh yeah, the way everyone around me has been going on about it, you’d think that this is even better than the Potter series. (I bet some people even fantasize about this…). So, even though I’ve had my share of action movies, I too stood in the line to get my ticket for this movie and settled down for a nice nostalgic ride.

Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4.0
The new Die Hard revolves around a haggard and tired out McClane, who is now, very visibly, in his 50s. He is on a new assignment after a long break and this time its hi-tech terrorists who are trying to bring down America’s computer network and hence wreak chaos and mayhem in the nation. Now a lot of people are ridiculing the return of McClane as his old guns and outdated mass killing is viewed as extinct. For starters, the baddies are really geeks and nerds who look like jocks (ha ha) and do stuff that McClane can’t ever fathom. For this sake, he is given a side kick, who is quite annoying, but basically covers the “computer part”. So our hero can bring back his old ways into vogue and ring back Die Hard. The battle heats up when his own daughter is kidnapped by the very same terrorist and he cuts and kills with a vengeance.

Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4.0
Now that you know a little about the plot, you should also know that the script writer was not so accurate in the presentation, which resulted in a loosely held movie. Probably some of the fault can be attributed to the director, the same one who made Underworld, because the same magic is not there. The only good thing this time is Bruce Willis as all other performances can be altogether neglected, they were so unmemorable. The action sequences will obviously be regarded as state of the art, but besides that, there is nothing much in the movie. Sure, I know why it is called an ACTION film, but should there not be a good storyline behind the action scenes? I have seen all the Die Hard films and I have to say that this one is disappointing because it has not lived up to the legacy that the other two sequels maintained. Another thing that can’t get over is the “live free or die hard” title that the movie had in the states - it is really a little too much.

Justin Long and Maggie Q in Die Hard 4.0
I know that there are not many who will appreciate or even agree with me, but I think that though this movie would be seen in a different light if it had stood alone, it is pitted and compared with its prequels and it pales in comparison. So if you are an action freak, you will love the film. But if you are a Die Hard freak, I think you will be a tad disappointed.
