Ufff! Rama Rama Kya Hai Dramaaa
Verdict ‘to be strictly avoided’ is written for the movies of this kind. ‘To every man his own’, Director Chandrakant Singh might have tried to take this theme to weave it into his debut comedy movie. Whatever, but the final outcome is a complete baloney! Now how can you possibly miss all the points while making a film that goes for a nation wide release?
‘Rama Rama Kya Hai Dramaaa’ is designed after the so-called comic movies on unhappy husbands (‘No Entry’ types), who try to imagine that every second woman, they meet on the street, is better than their wives. Trying to make anther comedy movie of about unhappy human beings irrespective of gender, the after the genre of searching for lost treasures, has been much used and abused. We are somehow caught in a world which we do not find amusing, always wishing for getting into somebody else’s shoes, without knowing that the person with whom we wish to swipe our fate is also in a similar flux. In this case, not only the husband but also the wife is in search of perfect love in somebody else other than the husband (is this for real? Got to keep an eye on the spouse!).

Now the cliché, ‘love thy neighbor’s wife and envy his fate’ holds true for ‘Rama Rama Kya Hai Dramaaa’. We have three couples, two of them are not happy in their relations and want to walk out but some how hold their step back, while trying to romance each other’s wife (does it remind you of ‘Mixed Doubles’, Ranbir and Konkana were far better than these!). Now, for these mediocre characters, we have some very very mediocre names; say for example, Santosh and Shanti (try deciphering the other names as well, good time pass!). One can imagine Rajpal Yadav as Santosh (remember him in ‘Main Meri Patni Aur Who’), Neha Dhupia as Shanti is simply too much! Come on, she is too sultry and sexy to be a Shanti! Would anyone dare ask her, what she is trying to prove, she has not only chosen all wrong movies and characters possible, where she is heading to with ‘Julie’, ‘Eek Chalis…’ and ‘Chup Chup Ke’? It’s better not to talk about Rajpal in this movie, he has the same perplexed looks and dialogues as in ‘Main Meri Patni Aur Woh’. But man, isn’t he lucky to be romancing such hot babes like Rituparna, Neha and even Amrita! That too, he gets the lead roles and is even unhappy with Neha and goes for Amrita (any guess who could be the next one, Kareena, Aishwarya or Biapasha?).
Talking about the movie’s story line, we have an unhappily married couple Santosh and Shanti, played by Rajpal Yadav and Neha Dhupia, respectively. They are from a small town with small town mentality (what is small town mentality, would anyone ask Chandrakant Singh, however it doesn’t show in the movie!). The other unhappy couple is that of Santosh’s boss and his wife, Prem played by handsome and lively Ashish Chaudhary and Khushi, played by sensuous Amrita Arora. While these two couples are ready for a mixed doubles, we have an elderly preaching couple, who keep appearing on and off in the movie, is Mr. and Mrs. Khurana, played by a matured Anupam Kher and a motherly Rati Agnihotri.

So, according to, defying the very institution of marriage, Director Chandrakant Singh, every married man, irrespective of in possession of a fortune or not, is in need of a wife, but not his wife, of course! As evident, Santosh is not happy with Shanti and day dreams many a lovely woman replacing her. Shanti is not the homely, docile type that Santosh expected when he married a small town girl. Similarly, Prem is a typical goodie-goodie husband and is fed up with his demanding and pompous wife Khushi’s tantrums. These two guys do a lot of drama before realizing that the religiously Indian man is better off with his own wife and falls back into the same life as he has been leading before the drama started, may be to meet after 50 years to wish it could have been different!
To sum up the acting talents, Neha is good but what is she doing opposite Rajpal Yadav, isn’t it some kind of a professional suicide? Rajpal Yadav should take this seriously and remember as well as realize that he gives indigestion in lead roles. Ashish Chaudhary is confused and cute, not good enough to lead a movie. Amrita Arora is conceitedly melodramatic. Anupam Kher is no doubt good as expected and Rati Agnihotri suits her role and shows maturity and experience.

The music is just so-so and is nothing amazing. Music director Siddharth Suhas, has definitely not given music for the masses, was he paid for it even? Singers like Adnan Sami and Alisha Chinnai also fail to make any impression other than, oh god! The screenplay and editing is pitiably pathetic.
‘Rama Rama Kya Hai Dramaaa’ is nowhere close to a comedy movie. Over all, I would highly recommend anyone to avoid spending their hard-earned money and not to waste their precious weekends visiting the multiplexes. Anyone, who is suffering from boredom, should avoid it, no matter where it is coming.
