Give this film a chance. “Money Hai Toh Honey Hai” has a certain sincerity of purpose and a rather sturdy narrative that serves the comic purpose until interval. But that’s when the pace slackens, the interest-level droops and the chuckles drop drastically to make way for a touching and simple climax that tells us it’s okay to be ordinary and that living is about letting your dreams run free. Sanjay Dutt has created enough publicity to launch a great beginning for all his films till time infinitum. So I guess the makers and backers of Dhamaal should be very happy with the proceedings because their film has got a huge and much needed boost. From the promos and trailers, my impression was that it is a film like Nehle Pe Dehla, Do Aur Do Gyaraah, Jodi No. 1 and so on. In short, I thought it was a complete write off. Before I start with the review for the film, it must be said that I am extremely saddened by the level of cinema. There are those who have matured and create cinema with food for thought. Today, the average Indian too has the sensibility to separate class from crass. In this day and age, it is ridiculous for such a movie to be released, that too masquerading as a comedy for the masses. Let me assure you, this is not for the masses, unless masses stands for uncivilized, sex crazed American high school boys. (more…)
