Lovesongs – Yesterday Today Tomorrow, a movie that comes and goes without any remarkable impression on you! As per me, even though offbeat films are a matter of inquisitive nosiness, this one fell flat on its nose. Seems like it has been pondered over 22 years for Director Jayabrato Chatterjee to come up with this movie! The last one this journalist cum poet turned film maker (what a conveniently growing path!) Jayabrato Chatterjee’s last movie was Kehkashaan (starred by Victor Banerjee, Girish Karnad and Mallika Sarabhai) a movie lying under a heap of dust from ages. May be the director is still living in the days of Communalism and Naxalism struck Kolkatta, but we have come really far off from that era. And when we have great movies excogitating about this theme and troubled relations caused due to it or somehow entwined with it, then what more does this love song sung by Jayabrato Chatterjee hopes to prove. Definitely made for the NRI audience, the movie ‘Yaariyan’ seems to do the trick that was desired for by the movie makers. Now, you cannot deny the fact that Punjabi songs sell no matter where you release them. Being a musical drama ‘Yaariyan’ definitely owes its success to its rocking Punjabi music. A major chunk of the NRIs worldwide are essentially Punjabis and this movie’s worldwide release wanted to impress this specific breed. If you take a look at the UK box office, you would definitely find the previous years major successes were all Punjabi movies. (more…)
Before I start with the review for the film, it must be said that I am extremely saddened by the level of cinema. There are those who have matured and create cinema with food for thought. Today, the average Indian too has the sensibility to separate class from crass. In this day and age, it is ridiculous for such a movie to be released, that too masquerading as a comedy for the masses. Let me assure you, this is not for the masses, unless masses stands for uncivilized, sex crazed American high school boys. (more…)
Delhi came to a standstill on the eve of India’s 60th independence when the star cast of soon to be releases Bollywood potboiler ‘Buddha Mar Gaya’ descended on the Indian Capital. Be ready for a roller coaster laughter ride. Shemaroo Entertainment is glad to release yet another Firoz Nadiadwala’s comedy flick ‘Fool N Final’. After the popular Hera Pheri sequels, it is now time for Fool N Final’s rib tickling comedy. The cast of this film is a good mix of great comedians and fine actors like Paresh Rawal, Johny Lever, Asrani, Rajpal Yadav, Javed Jaffrey, Om Puri and Jackie Shroff among others, while Sunny Deol, Shahid Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and Ayesha Takia form the lead cast of the film. Paresh Rawal and Johny Lever share a fantastic chemistry in the film like never before. The duo certainly makes audiences look forward, to some hilarious comical scenes. In retrospect, Johny Lever is seen after long on the silver screen and he once again seems to have satisfied his fans all over in Fool N Final. (more…)
