Jimmy: History repeated?
Saturday, May 10th, 2008
Disco Dancer which gave us a star Mithun Chakraborty has been compared with Jimmy. Jimmy was supposed to bring back the glory the father lived by a son which falls flat on its nose. But how can you even hypothetically compare two different films, I agree that the background does look like a lot of the 1980s cliché film but that doesn’t make Jimmy anything like Disco Dancer. The film’s director seems to be still waking up at a certain day in1980s and has nothing to do with the year being 2008. Mithun who has loads of experience in the industry should have guided his son when the star kid decided to take up this offer. Now, it is only fair to say that Jimmy was not the right launch pad for Mimoh Chakraborty. (more…)

I feel Director E Niwas tried to make a mixed curry sort of a thing with this movie. Most of us have seen ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and have seen quite a number of times to miss the amazing character Anthony Gonsalves, played by Amitabh Bachchan. The similar way, our hero here is rescued from a street and is brought up by a catholic preacher. What I wonder is, its fine if a kid in the late seventies grew up in a church and still go back to business in the slum, however now it is a different world after all. This film has nothing new to boast of, same kind of storyline, mediocre acting and a shabby treatment of the theme. It is too nostalgic to create even a make belief world.
