To be fair, putting together saas-bahu sagas and the sensex seems a good concept, but director Shona Urvashi fails to use it effectively in her film. In recent years, Bollywood has been generous to directors who experimented with novel concepts and the audiences too accepted their films. “Saas Bahu Aur Sensex” dares to be different as it tells the story of middle-class housewives playing the stock market. I feel Director E Niwas tried to make a mixed curry sort of a thing with this movie. Most of us have seen ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and have seen quite a number of times to miss the amazing character Anthony Gonsalves, played by Amitabh Bachchan. The similar way, our hero here is rescued from a street and is brought up by a catholic preacher. What I wonder is, its fine if a kid in the late seventies grew up in a church and still go back to business in the slum, however now it is a different world after all. This film has nothing new to boast of, same kind of storyline, mediocre acting and a shabby treatment of the theme. It is too nostalgic to create even a make belief world. (more…)
Quite an unusual name for a film-this is what most people will think when they hear it for the first time. And it’s not wrong too. But it is the love for the unusual that will lure them to watch this film. And these people will not be disappointed as this film is off the beaten track. Pritish Nandy does have a knack of picking up societal topics that are never really addressed or even noticed and transforming them into films. These films find a way to get under your skin and make you ache like the characters in it. Bow Barracks Forever is no different. This film has already been critically acclaimed in a number of international film festivals. But it still remains to be seen if it will be commercially accepted in a country like India. (more…)
