‘Well done, Vivek Agnihotri’ is the comment that would come out when you watch the movie Goal. This is one more sports movie after Lagaan, Iqbal and Chak-de. Goal is all about football and the discrimination of Asians in England. Arshad Warsi has played the captain of the Southhall football team of Southhall United Club. Boman Irani (Tony Singh) comes to coach this team to win the trophy, but he finds that there is lack of sense and team spirit among the team members. He decided to involve John Abraham (Sunny) who currently played for rebel team. The movie is all about how Tony convinces Sunny and how they manage to win the trophy. The music of the movie is nicely carried out by Pritam and he used John and Bipasha off-screen chemistry very well in the music. The song ‘Billo Rani’ rocks to some extent and a few more numbers also does well in the music charts. The role of Arshad warsi as a team captain who tried to hold the team together is not very impressive. Similarly, Bipasha as physiotherapist has got limited appearance. Vivek Agnihotri captured the life of Asians in Britain very well. He added the real game shots and created a mood of true sports in the movie. Overall it is a good watch giving a signal that movies dealing with sports themes are here to stay in Bollywood.
Another sports movie hits the screen after Lagaan dealing with cricket and Chak De with the women’s hockey team. Goal is about football and racism in England. So the story opens to the fate of the Southhall United Club that must win the league championship in order to win the prize money needed to save their football ground. A scheming businessman, Dalip Tahil who wants to convert it into a shopping mall, also covets the football ground.
