Abbas Tyrewala’s directorial debut, which stars newcomer Imran Khan, has a certain sparkling spirit, a zest for living life and a certain zing about the way the characters look at life and love. It’s not only about the way the characters’ exuberant yearnings connect with the audience, it’s also about the casual, free-flowing events and dialogues in the narrative that give the characters an edge over other urbane youngsters who have come and gone in the past. (Photos) Consider it a woman’s instinct or a biased psychology, I always had a feeling that Rajat Kapoor is synonymous with good Offbeat Cinema. I remember watching him do a class job in advertisements and some worthwhile action in the television, and then he came in playing the role of an old child-abuser in ‘Monsoon Wedding’. It is difficult to say why but I knew, he was going to stay right here and act in some good movies and when it comes to film making, I think now the time has come to disclose his silver. ‘Mithya’ is not exactly a surprise but with movies like ‘Raghu Romeo’, ‘Mixed Doubles’ and ‘Bheja Fry’ from Rajat Kapoor, it was quite expected. Arindam Chaudhuri’s ‘Mithya’ is a very well narrated lie, with everything from dramatic, comic, roman antic, thrilling and tragic elements stirred well in it. Mr. Chaudhuri has some how amended for his sins by making ‘Rok Sako Toh Rok Lo’, a good choice by putting money in Rajat Kapoor and letting him do his bit peacefully. (more…)

Everything, from the name to the treatment of the theme to acting, was so very very typical and mediocre. We have been fed on the Bollywood Masala ever since we know. May be Nagesh Kukunoor was just trying the Grandma’s recipe with some Thai ingredients! Ultimately, he could not even create one particular taste and left the audience with burnt tongues and empty stomachs. And what a waste of time and energy! (more…)
