Kajol’s father Shomu Mukherjee’s death due to massive cardiac arrest, is a shocking news for the Hindi film industry. He left behind wife Tanuja and two daughters Kajol and Tanisha. He was 65. Tanuja and Shomu were staying separately since many years and was alone at his Santa Cruz residence. He was keeping unwell for quite sometime and very often admitted to hospital. Recently, he returned from hospital after undergoing heart surgery.

The funeral took place today at 2 PM at Mumbai’s Santa Cruz crematorium. Vinod Khanna, Shammi Kapoor, Joy Mukherjee, Rani Mukherjee, Karan Johar were all present. He passed away on the eve of the release of his son-in-law, Ajay Devgan’s directional debut U, Me Aur Hum. According to the family sources, the film will release as per the schedule but they have dropped the plan of holding a special premiere.

Shomu Mukherjee was a reputed filmmaker who owned the Filmalaya studio. He was the son of Sasadhar Mukherjee and youngest among his other two sons, Joy Mukherjee and Deb Mukherjee. Joy and Deb moved towards acting while Shomu got into direction and producing films. He produced and directed films like Chaliya Babu, Patthar Ke Insaan, Lover Boy and Nanha Shikhari. Sangdhil Sanam in 1994 was the last film that he directed.
