Ek Chalis Ki Last Local Movie Review: Ek Sau Chaalis Ki Ticket

You know how some people are movie addicts and love to watch them first day first show so that they can pass their judgment on the film in question and become opinion leaders for their cliques? There are many of those roaming around who don’t mind spending a small fortune on films every week. The only trouble is some films are really not worth it. Considering that most movie tickets cost around a hundred and fifty bucks, which is not a risk that the average man should be taking. One such film is Ek Chaalis Ki Last Local.

Rating: 1 star

The film, directed by Sanjay Khanduri, revolves around an average Joe named Nilesh (Abhay Deol), who is a call centre employee. As luck would have it, he misses his last train home and thinks there is no possible way in which he could wile away two and a half hours for the first train home. Oh boy, if only he knew what all was in store for him- first, he runs into a pretty, demure looking girl wearing a Salwaar Kameez. Her name is Madhu (Neha Dhupia) and wonderfully, she too is facing a similar problem. So they decide to hang out together. And since dance bars are such a wonderful option for any two strangers to go in order to pass time, they do just that. Hold on, it is about to get zanier. In the dance bar, nice boy Nilesh gets involved in a scuffle with a gambler over a gambling misunderstanding.

In the midst of all this, there is a parallel story running - a gang has kidnapped a rich kid and are waiting for 2.5 crores as ransom. There is ANOTHER gang that wants to steal the ransom from the first gang (good god!). To top it all, the police too lands up there and in the midst of all this is our original yokel Nilesh. One way or another, he lands up with the money.

I would try and explain the rest of the movie but I don’t feel like - it is so difficult. There are a lot of shootings and killings and surprise and surprises! Nothing happens to the darling hero. In fact, he is tortured and molested, but nah! He lives through it all. And oh, before I forget, Madhu is actually Mala - a prostitute; something that she mentions around interval.

Logic talk now - firstly, all call centre guys get pick ups and drops. Secondly, prostitutes do not wear designer Salwaar Kameezes. Plus, they do not engage in mild flirtations. The rest of the film defies logic, so I won’t even try.

There are just too many characters with too many things and it is simply unbelievable. Dhupia is the No. 1 choice when it comes to playing call girls a la Julie. I actually feel sorry for Abhay Deol -he really is a decent actor stuck in a bad film.

You ponder over it and think that the film could have been interesting, if only the director had not gotten greedy and tried to bite off more than he could chew. Advice? Well, please don’t spend money to watch it - you can catch it on TV. Trust me, it will be there soon.

Nicely made timepass movie. Why the reviewer wants to find logic here ? Its easy to praise SRK movies even if there is no good acting..

Its a fun film and I strongly recomend this movie. 4 stars from my side.

  2. Zumba Says:

Too much masala. I found it OK. TP Movie as Sunil rightly points out.
